Five Reasons to Get Behind Bianca Belair
Deon Egenti
Jacqueline, Jazz, Alicia Fox, Awesome Kong, Naomi, Ember Moon, Sasha Banks, and many more African American women have transcended professional wrestling as we know it. They are world-class athletes, champions, and trailblazers. A new woman is on her way up towards that and her name is Bianca Belair. She is the EST of the WWE. The fastest, toughest, smartest, and just simply the best. She proves it inside and outside of the ring which makes it so easy to get behind her. Here are five reasons why you too should get behind Bianca Belair.
She designs her wrestling gear.
It’s normal for wrestlers to have their gear designed for them. Wrestlers are usually on the road most of the year so you would think they wouldn’t have any extra time for that. That is why it’s so astonishing that Bianca Belair takes the time and effort to make her attire. You can tell she is very particular about how she wants to look every time she steps into the ring and we appreciate her for that.
She owns her own business.
A Black wrestler with a Black owned business? What more can you say about Bianca Belair? Her shop is called Nicole Allen Shop and it is owned by her and her husband Montez Ford. It allows WWE fans to buy some of Bianca’s creations from her directly. The shop mainly consists of jewelry, bags, and even custom-made children’s clothes. She also has another website called The Culture Connect. It promotes education & re-educating people by providing book suggestions, videos, documentaries, etc. that touches on Black culture, history, entertainment, issues, & topics.
College Graduate
Athletic and educated is how you can describe Bianca’s college career. She first attended the University of South Carolina and then Texas A&M University, and completed her college career at the University of Tennessee, where she became All-SEC and All-American as well as being named to the SEC’s academic honor roll in 2011 and 2012. Fun fact: She graduated in 2012, but she didn’t walk until 2019 because of her career pursuits in CrossFit and WWE.
Homegrown Talent
It’s very rare for someone to be great at wrestling before having no experience. However, Bianca just proves once again why she is just so good. After her CrossFit career came to an end, due to shifting rib syndrome, she was a sales representative in Atlanta. Then, she applied to the WWE on a whim, and WWE Hall of Famer, Mark Henry, asked her if she was interested in a tryout two weeks later. She came into the WWE Performance Center with no experience in 2016 and four years later she’s one of the hottest new stars in WWE.
The EST of Smackdown
Before getting drafted to Smackdown, Bianca Belair was on WWE NXT where she dominated the women’s division. She was undefeated at one point for 367 days. The fans knew she would be a force in the WWE and it was made clear at this year’s Royal Rumble. She eliminated 8 competitors in the 30 women battle royal which was the most in history. Later that year, she got drafted to Smackdown where she is continuing to stride like no other. She has a lot to prove and is only getting better with time. She is the future of women’s wrestling.
